The tension between the art/object and viewer/subject and the activation of the liminal space between identification and separation of body and object are central for me in understanding the relationship between ontology and art. Our beings/bodies are our only conduit for experience. And aesthetics is our main navigation tool. The majority of my sculpture is made from found objects and detritus. It is my hope that these objects echo within the viewer a notion of some lost historicity or residual effect of sorts; an authenticity. Often the objects chosen are recognizable, but only to a limited extent. Therefore, a blade may obviously be a blade, but for what original purpose was it used? The original context is vague. I want the viewer to remain in this liminal space.
